- My Unforgettable Experience at YISS - Jerry Chen, University of California, Los Angeles
- One of the things I truly appreciated about YISS was the incredibly welcoming environment it fostered for people of all backgrounds. From the moment I arrived, I felt fully immersed, not only with native Koreans but also with students from all over the world. This cultural diversity made my time at YISS even more enriching, as I was able to learn from and connect with so many different perspectives. YISS also ensured that my experience in Korea was both comfortable and safe, providing incredible resources and support throughout my stay. In addition to the academic benefits, I had the privilege of meeting many talented and inspiring students in my classes. Their intelligence, creativity, and kindness left a lasting impression on me. Beyond the classroom, I formed meaningful connections with my professors and staff members, creating memories that I know I will cherish for a lifetime. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and relationships I gained during my time at YISS, and for how the program helped shape my experience in Korea. -Jerry Chen, University of California, Los Angeles

- How YISS Transformed My Understanding of South Korea -Hussain Cochinwala, University of Alberta
- I walked into YISS admittedly not knowing much about Korean culture. But through the various school trips, interactions with students from multicultural backgrounds and witnessing Korean culture first hand, I now have a much better idea of the complexities and richness of life in South Korea! Being able to learn at Yonsei University was an amazing experience due to the vibrant campus and supportive teachers that made my learning experience so much better. Thanks to YISS I was able to make lifelong friends that I'm sure I will talk to long after the program is over. I was also able to make cherished memories that I would otherwise not have on a solo trip. -Hussain Cochinwala, University of Alberta

- My time at YISS ’24 -Damien Wan, The University of Western Australia
- My time at YISS ’24 will be an unforgettable memory. Attending Yonsei Summer allowed me to engage with students from diverse backgrounds and learning from other cultures. Staying at the student dormitory (I-house) was a unique experience as I’ve never done so before. The courses were taught by professors who were engaging and offered valuable insight. Group projects and collaborations was quite common in the syllabus which allowed more peer-interactions which I appreciated. Outside the classroom, YISS provided a vibrant and engaging environment. I had the opportunity to explore Seoul in the City Tour, as well as Lotte World. The Teacher Assistants under YISS’ were all approachable and friendly which added to this experience. -Damien Wan, The University of Western Australia

- My life changing experience in YISS - Aviana Reynard, Lehigh University
- My experience in the Yonsei International Summer School was life changing. Coming in, I was a bit nervous about stepping into a new school with new people in a new country. However, the nerves settled when me and the other students received a warm and vibrant welcome from Yonsei. Our orientation helped, as it featured Yonsei’s dance team dancing to popular K-pop songs, which definitely hyped up the crowd. The orientation was not only fun but informative, providing us with resources, contacts, and maps to help settle us in. As a little extra touch, they even handed out travel-sized skincare products, which I thought were really cute. There was a range of activities offered by Yonsei, like cooking class, taekwondo, lotteworld, and so on, ensuring that there was something for everyone. I participated in the K-pop dance class where I learned the choreography of “How Sweet” by New Jeans from an encouraging choreographer. After class, me and the rest of the students had the chance to explore Mangwon Market, a street food market, which was very unique. Another activity I participated in was a trip to the Korean Folk Village, a place that I might not have visited on my own. The village, with cultural performances, traditional architecture, and glimpses into historical life, helped provide a different look into Korea’s history. The academic side of this program was also rewarding. Although the classes were information-heavy, the professors were clear, supportive, and made the learning enjoyable through their passion and engaging teaching styles. One of the most significant aspects of my YiSS experience was the opportunity to meet and connect with people from all over the world. I created friendships with students from Korea, across the United States, Germany, Australia, and Singapore (which is where my roommate was from!). These friendships I still carry with me; I am even planning to spend Thanksgiving with a friend I met at YISS! Before this trip, I had an interest in Korean culture, but nothing would have prepared me for the understanding I gained from actually being immersed in it. Experiencing the culture firsthand, learning the Korean language, exploring a different cuisine, learning traditional dance, and Korean etiquette was eye opening. It offered me a new perspective on the world and how big the world really is, and how much cultural history lies inside. This experience not only deepened my appreciation for Korean culture, but also sparked an interest for travel and exploration. Returning home, I feel like I have gained so much new knowledge, unforgettable memories, and a new world perspective. YISS has inspired me to continue exploring the world. One day I do hope to come back and explore even more! -Aviana Reynard, Lehigh University
